NASCAR at Homestead
So you want to see a NASCAR race at Homestead-Miami Speedway? Well here are some tips to get you started.
That’s the Ticket
The Ford 400 NASCAR Cup finale on Nov. 16 usually sells out weeks prior to race day in recent years, so buying tickets on the day of the event is not advised. But this year there are still tickets available for all three races. You can buy tickets through Homestead-Miami Speedway’s website homesteadmiamispeedway.com or by calling (866) 409-RACE. You can also go to Racetickets.com for tickets and travel packages. Tickets range between $90 - $160.
Park It:
General parking is free for the NASCAR races, but if you have club suite tickets, season tickets or tickets in the exclusive Champions Club, you will receive complimentary reserved parking passes. This reserved parking allows you to park closer to the speedway.
Parking lot gates open at 7 a.m. on race weekends and no overnight parking is allowed, unless you have purchased a spot in the RV lot. All the lots are within walking distance but wear comfortable shoes. There is a tram from the parking lot on Palm Drive because it’s the farthest from the track-all the other lots are walking distance.
Getting There
To avoid traffic you should plan on arriving several hours before the race - especially NASCAR weekend. Attending a race is a daylong event, so for the NASCAR Cup finale in November plan to get to the speedway in the morning so you can tailgate and enjoy all the event has to offer, including live concerts and interactive sponsor activities. After the race, be prepared to sit in traffic.
Yum Yum
The speedway concession stands offer fans everything from frozen drinks to ethnic foods, including Cuban food and Italian sandwiches for both the IndyCar and NASCAR races. Other foods you’ll find at the concessions: Philly cheesesteaks, steak sandwiches, hotdogs, hamburgers and French fries. Think typical sporting-event fare. Concessions also are available for those with club seating. The exclusive Champions Club has carving stations among other options.
Nice View
Unlike most sporting events, you want to sit higher at a race. If you sit low it’s hard to see the pits and to the backstretch. Many fans enjoy sitting near the start-finish line, but a lot of people also prefer sitting in Turn 1. By sitting higher up you get a good view of pit road and an unobstructed view of the track. Some fans prefer club seating, which shields them somewhat from the noise and gives them cover should it rain.
Sneaky secrets
If you want a chance to see Jeff Gordon or Dale Earnhardt Jr. up close, you can buy a garage pass for $30. The pass allows you to check out the cars in their garage stalls, and you might even catch a glimpse of the drivers walking around. Aside from autograph sessions, the best way to score your favorite driver’s signature is with a garage pass. The NASCAR garages are open until about an hour before the race.
