Van Dyke Cafe

  • $$, $10 - $20
  • American, Dessert, International, Middle Eastern, Seafood

Situated on top of the magnificent vine-covered Fischer building, a historic tower with an old European feel brimming with fascinating ghost tales, the Van Dyke Café is a charming upstairs sanctuary for jazz lovers. Brazilian bossa nova diva Rose Max, blues nightingale Wendy Pedersen and the Latin jazz Trio Negroni grace its stage. The ambience is elegant and classic, with velvet couches (best seats in the house), diligent service and chic round wooden tables (very 1920s) Ideal for a romantic outing or catching up with friends over wine and appetizers.

Since opening in 1994, Van Dyke’s comfortable upstairs lounge has been considered Miami’s best live jazz venue. Where it ranks on lists of Miami’s best restaurants is not quite so elevated, so best stick to basics and come anytime – it’s open 24/7. Cheeseburgers or the overstuffed Black Forest ham sandwich are reliable, as is the platter of fruit and brie. The café also has Murphy’s stout on draft; beer is food.
